Jonah Reynolds, founder of Pangea Design Build and developer of Pangea Community, sat down with KNCE to talk about the design approach behind the community: homes that make their own power, harvest their own water and treat their own wastewater, on land shared by the people who live there.
Why this conversation matters
Most development starts with lot lines and utility connections. Pangea starts with the sun, the soil and the water that falls on the land. Every home is designed around passive solar gain and thermal mass, harvests rain and snowmelt into its own cistern, and treats its greywater and blackwater with plants. The result is a community that asks less of the land and of the people who live on it.
Jonah has spent decades designing and building off-grid homes in northern New Mexico. This interview is a good introduction to how that experience shaped Pangea Community, from how individual homes are built to how the neighborhood is laid out and governed.
